The temple being located in Perur, the nearest airport is Coimbatore Airport which is at a distance of about 15 km from the temple. If you prefer flight over all other means of transport, you can take a flight to Coimbatore and take a cab from there

For those willing to travel by train, the nearest Railway Station is Coimbatore Railway Station which is around six kilometer from the temple. You can easily get cabs from the railway station to the temple.

  • The holy temple was built by Chola ruler Karikala Chola in the dates close to fourth century AD.
  • The temple is a centre of Hindu religion and famous for the belief that the mortal remains and ashes of dead people are turned into white stone in the temple after a period of 144 days.
  • Saint Sunfarar is said to have visited the temple in the ninth century AD and immortalized the temple in his Thevaram.
  • The Chola rulers of the period of 11th to 13th Century AD made huge donations and gave many gifts to the temple and its treasury. So, they built Ardha Mandapa and Mahamandapa to inscribe the details of the donations and presents given by them.
  • The temple ran under the aegis and fund provided by the rules of Hoysala, Vijayanagar and Nayaka dynasty for a period of close to three hundred years from 14th to 17th
