: Agra, one of the popular cities of Uttar Pradesh, is situated on the
west bank of the Yamuna river. The old part of the city is located to the
north of the fort, while the cantonment area to the south of the fort is the
modern part. Agra is bounded by Mathura on the north, Dhaulpur on the south,
Firozabad on the east and Bharatpur on the west.
Climate : Just like northern part of India, Agra has an extreme type of climate. Summers are hot and the temperature ranges from a maximum of 45 °C to a minimum of 21.9 °C. Winters are very cold and temperature varies between 30 °C and 4 °C. July to September is the rainy season.

Agra - The City Of Taj

Red
Fort : Situated in Old Delhi area, the magnificent fort extends two kms
and varies in height from 18 metres to 33 metres. This red sandstone fort
was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan but he could not rule from here. His
son Aurangzeb imprisoned him in Agra Fort and became the first and last
Mughal Emperor to rule from Red Fort. The fort houses many attractions like
Lahore Gate, Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, Moti Masjid, Royal baths and the
weaponry museum.
Taj Mahal : Built by Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal has been described as the most extravagant monument ever built for love. One of the most beautiful buildings of the world, the Taj Mahal's design and constrcution is just as impressive whether you view it from its front or the back.
Agra Fort : Agra Fort or the Red Fort is a dominant structure and is visible from Taj Mahal and other nearby areas. The construction of this majestic fort was commenced by Akbar in 1565 and additions were made till the time of his grandson Shah Jahan. Principally a military structure during Akbar's time, the red sandstone fort was renovated and converted into a palace by Shah Jahan. Major attractions inside the fort are the Pearl Mosque, Jehangir's Palace, Sheesh Mahal, Khaas Mahal, Musamman Burj, Diwan-e-Am and Diwan-e-Khas.
Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb : Situated on the opposite bank of the river Yamuna and north of fort, this is the tomb of Mirza Ghias-ud-din Beg. The tomb was built by his daughter Nur Jahan, who was married to the emperor Jehangir. Built in between 1622 and 1628, the tomb is of particular interest as many of its design elements are similar to Taj Mahal.

Mausoleum : The tomb of Akbar is situated 10 km north of Agra, at
Sikandra. The emperor began the construction of this tomb himself but it was
completed by his son Jehangir in 1613. The tomb stands in the center of a
big garden and four identical red sandstone gates lead to tomb complex.
Fatehpur Sikri : Located 35 kms west of Agra, the place was the capital of Mughal empire between 1570 and 1586. Today a well-preserved Mughal city, Fatehpur Sikri is home to several forts and old buildings of the Mughal period.
