Tamil Nadu Tour

Tamil Nadu means "voice of the Tamils". It is most important state in the South India. The history of the Tamil Nadu dates back to ancient times. It is believed that the Tamils, who belong to the Dravidian race, were the first residents of the country and settled in the north western part of India. Later they shifted to southern part of the country which is now known as Tamil Nadu. There are approx 30,000 temples in the state; which has given Tamil Nadu the title, "Land of Temples". Also, many cities of Tamil Nadu have been described extensively by the ancient travelers around the world as major centre of learning.
A trip to India is incomplete without a visit to ancient state of Tamil Nadu. We have included all the major attractions of Tamil Nadu like ancient temples, Forts, historic monuments, beaches, etc in this Tour carefully so that you don't miss any interesting destination at all.

Marina Beach, Chennai Day 01 : Arrival in Chennai
Arrival in Chennai and be met with our executive welcoming you to India with fresh flowers. Transfer to the hotel for immediate occupancy of the rooms already reserved for you. Overnight in Chennai.

Day 02 : Chennai
Chennai, the cultural center and gateway to Tamil Nadu is a fascinating jumble, dominated by glittering high: rise emporia and corporate buildings. But between all these, you can see the sights of colonial history and splendid strains of classical music. Chennai still has a traditional charm of its ancient past. Shored along the Bay of Bengal, Chennai has evolved from a tiny fishing village to the country's fourth: largest city. Your sightseeing will include all the major attractions of the city like Fort St. George, 17th century British military High court, Marina Beach, Government Museum Complex, Parthasarathi Temple, Sri Kapaleswarar Temple etc. Overnight in Chennai.

Day 03 : Chennai - Kanchipuram - Mahabalipuram (approx 140 Kms total)
In the morning, proceed towards Mahabalipuram (Mammallapuram) via Kanchipuram, which was the ancient capital of the Pallavas. It is famous as a city of 1000 Temples and still has 124 shrines. The first temple dedicated to Shiva was built in the 7th and 8th century and has paintings on the walls. Temples of Ekambaswara, Kailasanatha, Sri Kamakshi and Varadarajaswamy are of interest. Kanchipuram is also famous for its silks and Sarees. After sightseeing of Kanchipuram, continue journey to Mahabalipuram. Overnight at a beach resort in Mahabalipuram.

Day 04 : Mahabalipuram
Among the most outstanding examples of architecture, Mammallapuram or commanly known as Mahabalipuram stands as a silent witness to the glory of its creators and sculptors. In a land liberally strewn with stone carved temples, Rathas and exquisitely carved stonewalls, this thriving port city, was given the lease of life, through the chisels of Pallavas. Breathtakingly manmade & natural beauty of Mahabalipuram attracts tourists, due to its monumental splendor and sunny beaches. Sightseeing Tour of the city including all the Temples and monuments like seven pagoda (Shore temples, lashed by the waves of the sea) and the seven Rathas (temple chariots), animal figures carved out of solid rock (the earliest known examples of Dravidian architecture) etc. Most of them were constructed during 7th Century. Evening is free to enjoy the beaches. Overnight in Mahabalipuram.

Day 05 : Mahabalipuram to Pondicherry (120 Kms)
Drive towards the city of Pondicherry which was previously under the rule of France. You can still have the feel of France here. And moreover this is the place to have best French cuisine in India. Full day at leisure. Overnight in Pondicherry.

Day 06 : Pondicherry
Go for the city tour including Rai Nivas, the Sacred Heart Church and the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It is also very interesting to go around the city to see the French influence as this was the only place in India which was ruled by French Empire. You can see many interesting sights in the city. Overnight in Pondicherry.

Day 07 : Pondicherry to Tanjore (195 Kms)
Nataraja Temple, ChidambaramMorning drive to Thanjavur or commonly known as Tanjore. Enroute visit to famous temples of Chidambaram including Nataraj Temple (This is a huge temple covering an area of 40 acres and one of the ancient temples of Tamil Nadu. The roof of the sanctum sanctrorum is covered with gold plates. The Sivakamiamman temple, the Sivaganga tank, the thousand pillar hall are other important features of the Temple). After sightseeing, continue journey to Tanjore. Overnight in Tanjore.

Day 08 : Tanjore to Tiruchi (54 Kms)
With its winding streets and alleys, it is the center of all the classical arts and music. Well known for its unique painting style called Thanjavur Painting, and Thavil : a percussion instrument. Thanjavur has produced many classical musicians and dancers. Once occupying a proud position among the emperors of Chola Dynasty, as their capital and most treasured territory, for some of their most magnificent creations, Tanjore houses many a good monuments. Your sightseeing will include all the attractions like Brahadeeswarar Temple (a more than 1000 years old Temple), Art Gallery and the Saraswathi Mahal Library. After sightseeing, drive to Tiruchi. Overnight in Tiruchi.

Day 09 : Tiruchi to Madurai (128 Kms)
Tiruchi or also called Tiruchirapalli is the fourth largest city in Tamilnadu. Apart from the Rock fort with its historicity of spiritual significance, Tiruchi has popular educational institutions, built in the second half of 18th century by the Christian Missionaries. Being located in the heart of the State, Tiruchi has a blend of tradition and modernity, offering a variety of attractions to the tourists. In the morning, tour the city that includes Srirangam and Rock fort (it is Tiruchy's most famed land mark. It has a 84 m high rock, one of the oldest in the world aprox.3,800 million years old and the temple at the summit has 344 steps lead to the top where are the inscriptions dating back to the 3rd century B.C.) etc. After sightseeing, drive towards Madurai. Overnight in Madurai.

Day 10 : Madurai
This city of Madurai is believed to be more than 2000 yeras old. Megaphones (302 BC), Pliny (77AD) and Ptolemy (140 AD) wrote of Madurai, the kingdom of the Pandian. Macro Polo visited Madurai in 1293 AD and Ibn Batuta in 1333 AD. The temple and the old city are on the southern bank, while modern Madurai with its textile mills, engineering industries and large university sprawls around. Go for the city tour that includes Meenakshi Temple, Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam etc. You can also see Prayer Ceremony at the Meenakshi Temple in the evening. Overnight in Madurai.

Day 11 : Madurai to Chennai
In the afternoon, proceed to Airport to catch the flight to Chennai and thereafter catch the flight back home from Chennai Airport.
