Samode - City of majestic forts and havelis
Samode is a small town located quietly amidst the rugged hills of the Northern Aravallis. Situated on the way to Sekhawati, Samode is renowned for its majestic forts, havelis (mansions) and handicrafts. Samode is the perfect place for those who love culture and local arts. In Samode, tourists can enjoy natural beauty and rich history of India. According to the Rajputana Gazetteer, Samode was a big and flourishing town. It was ruled by the Nathawat clan from Chomu, tracing their relation to Prithviraj Singhji. The Nathawat clan was one of the lesser clans in Rajasthani Rajput, but they adopted the title of 'Rawal' for themselves. The Rawals of Samode were brave and they went beyond their means to prove their loyalty, like what 16-year-old Rawal Ram Singh did. He fought fiercely against the powerful Marathas to defend the fort of Ranthambore. It is said that he fought even after his head had been severed from his body. Samode was one of the wealthiest territories in the Amber kingdom. Eventually the Zamindari was passed to the hands of Behari Das, a Rajput warrior in Mughal Service, but after 6 generations the territory was returned to the Nathawats in 1757.

Samode Palace : Built around 400 years ago, this beautiful palace was awarded by one of the Kachchwaha rulers of Amber to one of his twelve sons. An excellent example of the the Rajput architecture, the palace is known for high quality of its frescoes and the use of indigo colours. The palace got its sumptuous look in the early 19th century, during the times of Rawal Bairi Sal Singh and his son Rawal Sheo Singh. The highlight of the Samode Palace is the exquisite Durbar Hall, built by Sheo Singh. Diwan-i-Khas is another attraction, which is covered with original paintings and glass work. Sultan Mahal is located on the first floor of the Palace, which has a magnificent marble pillared verandah. Recently this fairytale palace was converted into a Heritage hotel.
Samode Fort : The fort mostly in ruins is perched atop a hill near the Samode Palace. Samode Fort was the residence of the king before the construction of Samode Palace. The fort is in bad condition now, but it is worth a visit for getting splendid views of the surroundings. Walking among the ruins will take you to another era, in fact you will find a glimpse of the past that is still untouched.
Durbar Tent : Staying in Durbar tent is the fantastic way to experience the desert hospitality of Samode. Traditional Rajasthani music, song and dance make the environment more lively.

Shekhawati Village : Located just two and half kilometres away from Samode, Shekhawati village is famous for its havelis. Known for murals and wall paintings, this village is also regarded as the living art gallery of the world.

Samode. Samode Bagh was built by Rawal Sheo Singh, for the members of the
royal family as their recreation ground. After some restoration work the
garden has regained its former beauty. Built on the geometric style of the
Mughal garden, the garden comprises flowering bushes, fruit trees and lush
green lawns.
