Location : Kerala, one of the southern Indian states, is situated along the gregarious shores of the Arabian Sea. The state is bounded by the Arabian Sea on the west, the state of Tamil Nadu on the east and Karnataka on the north and northeast.

Climate : Just like other parts of South India, Kerala has a tropical climate and remains pleasant for most of the year. April to June is summer season, the maximum temperature during this season remains around 33°C. Monsoon arrives in late June and remains till September. Kerala receives heavy rainfall between the months of June and November. Winters, extending from October to January, are not too chilly in Kerala.

Best Time to Visit : The best time to visit the city is from February to April and from October to November.


Kerala - God's Own Country
Kerala, the land of 'green magic', is often referred to as the "God's Own Country." Trirvandrum is the capital of the state, while other important places include Kochi, Kovalam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Munnar, Palakkad, Alappuzha, Kollam and Kannur. Since time immemorial, the entire state is known for its inherent tranquility. Known as the land of rivers and backwaters, Kerala is a narrow strip which stretches between the high western ghats and the vast Arabian Sea. Kerala is gifted with varied landscapes that include hills and valleys, midland plains and coastal belts. This small enchanting land contains jungles, beaches, mountains, lake and some of the amazing natural resources in the world. Kerala is the place where all the major religions like Hinduism, Islam, Christian co-exist harmoniously. Ancient temples, mosques and churches rub shoulders, in fact here temples greet mosques, mosques wish churches and churches welcome temples. Today, Kerala is keeping pace with the modern advancements, but the state's heritage remains unaffected by modernization.

Houseboat, Alleppey Backwater Thiruvananthapuram : Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum is a charming seaside city built on seven hills. Bounded by the Western Ghats on its east and northeast and the Arabian sea on the west, the city has a lot to offer to the tourists. Most popular attractions of the city include Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Sri Subramaniyaswamy Temple, Kuthiramalika Palace Museum, Napier Museum, Shri Chitra Art Gallery etc.

Alleppey : Alleppey or Alappuzha is a busy city known as a centre for coir and carpet industries. The town is an ideal starting point for Kerala backwaters tour. The lovely lagoons, the amazing dikes and the cultivation below the sea level make it a popular region in Kerala. Boasting of beautiful beaches, amusement parks and canoes, the city leaves everyone spellbound. Alleppey also houses a number of ancient temples and palaces bearing the testimony of a bygone era. The city is also famous for Snake Boat races which are held in the month of August every year.

Kovalam : Situated at a distance of 14 kms from Trivandrum, Kovalam is considred to be one of the most spectacular beaches in India. Kovalam consists of a sheltered natural bay separated by rocky headlands. Also referred to as a 'Beach Paradise', the white sandy beach offers excellent opportunities for sunbathing and surfing.

Cochin (Kochi) : Popularly called the "Queen of the Arabian Sea", the city is famous for its natural harbour. One of the most interesting cities in India, Cochin houses many churches, temples and forts. Cochin is also home to oldest church of India. Most popular attractions of the city are the Chinese Fishing Nets, Santa Cruz Basilica, Dutch Palace Bolgatty island, Gundu island etc.

Munnar : The beautiful hill station of Munnar is located in the Idukki distrcit. Munnar is situated at an altitude of 1,600 to 1,800 metres above sea level, at the confluence of Nallathanni, Mudrapuzha and Kundala. Munnar boasts of the Anamudi peak, (2695 m), the highest peak in South India. Developed as a hill station by the British East India Company, the town still looks like a British tea plantation town. The winding lanes of this small town are filled with fragrance of fresh tea coming out of the numerous tea processing plants.

Kozhikode : Formerly known as Calicut, Kozhikode is the very place where Vasco-da-Gama landed in 1498 A.D. Kozhikode is gifted with natural wonders and artificial splendours. Major attraction of the town is the Museum and Art Gallery which houses antique furniture and objects d'art.

Kerala Ayurveda : Kerala is world famous for Ayurveda, the traditional form of medicine and treatment. Ayurveda, the system of treatment believed to be older more that 5000 years, offers a lasting cure to pateints suffering from various diseases. This ancient method of treatment is offered by a number of Ayurvedic resorts in the state.

Kerala BackwaterKerala Backwaters : Backwaters are one of the most attractive and economically valuable features of the state of Kerala. Backwater refers to the large inland lakes, consisting of a network of lakes, canals, estuaries and interesting water formations. The Vembanad Lake is the biggest backwater. Other popular backwaters are Veli, Kadinamkulam, Anjengo, Edava, Madayara, Paravoor, Ashtamudim Kayamkulam etc.

Kerala Beaches : The state with a coastline of 900 kms, is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in India. Kerala Beaches attract the visitors from all over the globe. Most important beaches of Kerala are Kovalam, Alleppey, Cherai, Kappad, Bekkal, Varkala and Shanghumugham.

Kerala Wildlife Sanctuaries : Kerala is also rich in varied wildlife and the state has many wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. The main wildlife areas of the state include the Periyar (Thekkady), Kumarakom, Eravikulam, Aralam, Thattekad, Silent Valley, Wynad, Parambikulam etc.
